Do you blog about video games every chance you get? Do you dabble in witty video game comics? Do you just want to try your hand at gaming journalism? Well here is your chance to get published on our website!
Glitch is excited to announce a new community article submission system, and we want your work! Submit your game reviews, articles, vlog entries or comics for a chance to have your work featured on the Glitch website.
The Process: Step-by-Step
Submit your work: Write an article, conduct an interview, shoot a vlog, draw a comic, or create some other work of gaming journalism and submit it to us by emailing it to katie @ www.glitch.mn.
Submission review: An editor will review everything and select 2-3 submissions to be published each month. We will consider content variety, quality and relevance.
First Edits: Glitch will contact you if your work has been selected to be featured that month. Then, you and a Glitch editor will discuss your submission and edit your first draft. You will have about a week to create a second draft based on our feedback.
Final Edits: We’ll help you make a Glitch account and put the article into wordpress. The Glitch editor will do a final edit of the second draft and hit publish.
Publishing: Your content submission is published on the website, you get fame, glory and a byline, and everyone gets to see your work!
Topics – What can I write about?
Glitch is excited to provide a platform for aspiring gaming journalists to show their work. As a gaming organization, all articles and content on our website should be relevant to gaming in some way. While game reviews are a common form of gaming journalism, Glitch welcomes opinion articles, interviews, videos or even original comic strips.
If you’re stumped trying to think of a topic, think of the type of articles and content that gaming magazines publish (such as Game Informer, IGN, Polygon, etc.).
Opinion articles
Game reviews
- Retro games or new games, indie or AAA, console or PC
- Comparisons also welcome (i.e. review League of Legends and Heroes of the Storm, offer analysis on both)
Interviews
- Interview industry professionals, developers, etc.
- An article in Q&A form recording the interview is acceptable, but fully detailed articles and analysis of the interview are preferred
Original comic strips
- Collaborations between writers and artists welcome!
Events reporting
- Attend an eSports event. Report on the match or the tournament, interview players and offer your analysis
- Report on a convention or other gaming event.
Who can submit work to Glitch?
This opportunity is open to all UMN undergraduate or graduate students. This is not exclusive to Glitch members or to specific majors- all majors and skill levels are welcome to send in their work.
What are the rules and guidelines for my article/video/comic?
- Written submissions
- Length: Articles should be at least 300 words but no longer than 1000 words.
- Photography and Graphics: Articles should include at least 1 image. Please include the source in the article. Include a 1-2 sentence caption per image.
- We will consider grammar and spelling when reviewing written submissions.
Video submissions
- Length: No longer than 20 minutes
- Provide sources for music, footage, animations, graphics and images used in the video (you can do this in the credits of your video or as they appear)
Comic submissions
- We will take the quality of the art and aesthetics into consideration when reviewing comics
- Traditional or digital media welcome, as long as the comic is web-quality
- Collaborations between artists and writers are welcome!
All submissions
All submissions are subject to review and editing before publishing.
Articles containing offensive material and language will not be considered and cannot be accepted or published. Keep your language PG-rated.
How will I be credited if I’m published?
Creator(s) will be credited with a byline on the website! We can also include a link to your personal website or blog. In addition, we’ll promote your published work through Glitch social media, newsletters and other announcements.
Terms and conditions?
While we prefer to be the first or only site to publish your work, we are open to reposts. If you have had your work published on another website, posted on a personal blog, or otherwise displayed somewhere else, we will still take the piece into consideration.
We want accepted work to stay on our website for at least 6 months. If at some point you want to take your work down, we’ll only take it down after that period of time has passed.
