Welcome Geek is our annual video game themed carnival held every September in celebration of the University of Minnesota’s “Welcome Week” festivities.

 

Come play video games, meet special interest groups, explore local opportunities, and participate in tons of fun activities throughout the night.

Rawson Stovall | Game Designer | Concrete Software

Rawson started his 25+ year games industry career at the age of 11 when he became the first syndicated game reviewer. Since then, he’s worked behind-the-scenes in positions ranging from design and development, to production and distribution. Rawson has contributed to many popular franchises including EA’s The Sims, TKO-Software’s Medal of Honor, and Activision’s Pitfall.

Andrew Fischer | Game Designer | Fantasy Flight Games

Andrew studied computer science at the University of Minnesota and now works at Fantasy Flight Games, where he has been for the last 5 years. In that time, he has worked as lead designer and developer on tabletop roleplaying games and board games—creating rules systems, balancing game mechanics, and coordinating development staff at every step of the game development process. Andrew’s work spans many licensed properties including the Warhammer and Star Wars universes.

Stephen Guy | Professor | UMN Computer Science

Stephen is a professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering and the director of the Applied Motion Lab at the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities. His work on motion planning has been licensed for use in games and virtual environments by Relic Entertainment and Electronic Arts. Stephen received his Ph.D. in Computer Science in 2012 from the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill with support from fellowships from Google, Intel, and the UNCF.

 

Challenges

Rocket League Action
The Rocket League 2v2 Challenge starts at 6:00pm and is on a first come – first serve basis. Come with a teammate or sign up as a free agent. Space is limited so make sure you arrive early to register and secure your spot. Winning team receives a pair of GlitchCon 2016 tickets, a $120 value!
 
Complete additional on-site challenges and quests to be entered into our raffle. Over $300 of prizing will be given out, including tickets, peripherals, swag, and more.
